These days there seems to be a national everything month/day/hour for everything under the sun, but this one I’m particularly fond of! For those of you who don’t know, May is National Pet Month! If you have an animal living in your house by choice – this should give you something to celebrate! As someone who very much was on the fence about having pets (and who’s husband was very much wanting them) I can say that they really do change your life for the better. I couldn’t imagine life with a cat and a dog and now I can’t imagine life without them. They are definitely part of what makes us a family and add to the crazy.
And I love it.
So, in celebration of National Pet Month I think it’s appropriate to take a moment and introduce you to ours.
If you have been to my home you will notice that Miss Izzy here is a little different than other cats. I say this because she is the most vocal cat I’ve ever come across. Leo says she learned it from me, which is totally fair. I have a lot to say! She doesn’t stop meowing and purring and despite her needing to quiet down sometimes I would jump in front of a moving vehicle for her. Maybe a small one, like a vespa or an old lawnmower and only if it was going really slow – but still!
We adopted Izzy as a kitten from the Humane Society after Leo really wanted a dog. Cat = Compromise. We were happy to be adding a pet and within days this feline and I were besties. I seriously adore her. She will binge watch Netflix with me on the weekends, she never judges when I give into junk food cravings and she is always there when I need someone to talk to. (I know what you’re thinking, crazy cat lady alert!) I’m pretty sure if she could she would turn into a person and go shopping with me. I swear she day dreams about it.
Now, Luna is a different story altogether. Our yellow lab of love over here was more than a handful in the beginning. Puppy training is not for the weak! I knew this going in, which is why it took almost 5 years of Leo
hinting begging for us to get a dog. We adopted her from Peak Lab Rescue in Apex, NC and she seriously stole our hearts. I’ve decided God makes puppies cute so you don’t want to kill them when they do a million things that make you want to scream. It’s like how parents will say one child was the easy child and then there’s the other one. Izzy did not at all prepare us for Luna – which was initially named after Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter, yet could just as easily be short for “Lunatic”.
So, fast forward and 1 1/2 years in and I seriously can’t believe how happy she makes us. When you wake up in the morning to see that puppy face, it can make you want to stay home and skip work just to snuggle her. She is a Daddy’s girl for sure but lately I’m telling you, we are inseparable. She makes us laugh so much and reminds us to slow down sometimes just to play and enjoy the little moments.
To celebrate the furry friends in our lives, I designed a cute little printable for you! I hope you enjoy it! Just click on the image below to download the pdf straight to your computer! Print one for you and one for a friend. Hang it above your cat’s food bowl or your dog’s leash hanger. Add it to your gallery wall or your office cubical to remind yourself you get to go home and make your pet’s day when you walk in! I mean, honestly, you can do whatever you’d like with it because it’s free and it’s yours! Knock yourself out.
I’d love to know about the pet’s in your life and the difference they make to you! Cat, Dog, Fish, Bunny, Sugar Glider, Tea Cup Pig….I want to know!
